It was considering privatizing a slew of the maintenance and custodial jobs in which could equate to the hundreds of layoffs in the school system in DeKalb County, Georgia.  If the vote to privatize is ok’d more than 800 Dekalb school workers would lose their jobs.  The jobs that were include under the threat are painting, window glazing, the heating and air-conditioning, the pest control positions and the equipment repair.  It is currently dealing with the estimated $50 million shortfall in the next year’s budget, the school system is currently dealing, so that the all of the cost-saving measures was being considered.   The objective is not to eliminate employees, but to save the taxpayer dollars, this is according to the school spokesman Jeff Dickerson.  The outsourcing was still a proposal and the amount of the potential savings was not available base to AJC, the school officials.  The number of the jobs impacted was higher than Dickerson’s estimate of 800, this is according to the board chairman Tom Bowen, he also said that the 900 jobs would be cut including the 600 custodians and 350 in the other jobs at the service center.  The custodial companies was reviewing bids to determine the most-effective avenue, the schools have put out the request for proposals from the various maintenance.  It is expected that the recommendation was to be delivered over the next two months.   The union represents around 4, 700 employees so that the Organization of DeKalb EDucators expressed their anger to AJC over the proposal.  David Schutten, the union presidents said that it is a huge concern for him. The people in the school was very upset that the privatizing custodian will take away the family feel in schools.  The outsourcing helps the company and the businesses in providing solutions to the company and business problems.
