“The 89% of Independent Financial Advisors (IFAs) are either considering outsourcing their investment management to a third party or are already doing so.” this is by the research by Rathbone Investment Management showed. Then according to the survey findings, “which were generated from 10 regional seminars hosted by Rathbone across the UK, 47% of IFAs are already outsourcing investment management, while a further 42% are considering outsourcing. Only 9% of IFAs said they would never consider outsourcing.” Robert Hughes-Penney, investment director for Rathbone, said: “Clearly, many IFAs are realising that outsourcing investment management to discretionary fund managers provides enormous benefits for their business and can free up their time to concentrate on client service and giving expert advice on tax planning or pensions.” The cost was the main reason why they were reluctant to outsource their investment management, while 18% said they were worried about losing control over their clients’ investment if they delegated part of their business to an outsider. This is more than one quarter of respondents said Tony Byrne. ” while the outsourcing investment management was something his firm had done in the past, he had always been disappointed with performance.” this according to the financial planning director for Milton Keynes-based Wealth and Tax Management. and the “Stockbrokers have let us down badly and we tried insurance companies and multi-manager funds, but all have been highly disappointing”, he said. “We’ve done far better managing ourselves.” It is difficult to determine where responsibility lies if a client complains, and says clients investments are not monitored as closely in the Byrne pointed out that with outsourcing. He added: “If you are an IFA and call yourself independent, why are you giving the work to someone else to do?
