Amazon Declares 300 US government customers Using AWS

Amazon.com’s cloud services division, AWS or Amazon Web Services has revealed that over 1,500 education institutions and 300 government agenciesin the United States are now utilizing for a wide range of uses that includes disaster relief, archiving and storage, big data analytics, wed and collaboration application, and high performance computing applications.

Public sector customers finally have larger capabilities for a very quick design, establish and utilize high performance applications with Amazon Web Services’ inexpensive, scalable and secure platform with the new features and services joined today in AWS GovCloud, stated by the vice president of a worldwide public sector of Amazon Web Services, Teresa Carlson. She associated the level of support with the federal government actions as the United States Federal Cloud First directive.

Outlined to be submissive with the United States data processing regulations that includes the United States ITAR or International Traffic in Arms Regulations requirements, the AWS GovCloud is a US-specific iteration of Amazon Web Services. It responds to a common complaint of cloud computing that subscribers frequently don’t have any idea where their data is being handled and gathered that could violate several regulations in various regions.

The United States government users of Amazon Web Services involve the US Recovery and Accountability Board, Douglas County in Nebraska and Multnomah County in Oregon, the US Department of Agriculture, the National Institutes of Health, the space agency NASA, the US Department of State, the State of Washington, the US Department of the Treasury, and CDC or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The CDC’s BioSense 2.0 which is a public health monitoring service that used AWS GovCloud is one of the specific United States government application promoted by AWS. It gathers information from over 2,000 health facilities to support health officials in answering to diseases rapidly and to distinguish trends in public health.

The director in the Division of Informatics Solutions and Operations at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Taha Kass-Hout said that BioSense in sequence with the White House cloud initiative is the first Department of Health and Human Services programme introduced completely in the cloud. Operation of BioSense and public health surveillance practice in AWS GovCloud emerged in a suggestive savings in higher costs to CDC and state and local health authority, he added.

The AWS GovCloud combines a number of Amazon web services for the United States public sector use that includes Amazon CloudWatch and Amazon CloudWatch alarms, Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud or EC2, EC2 Cluster Compute instances, EBS or Elastic Block Store, Amazon SQS or Amazon Simple Queue Service, Auto Scaling, AWS Identity and Access Management or IAM, Amazon SNS or Amazon Simple Notification Service, Elastic Load Balancing, VPC or Amazon Virtual Private Cloud and S3 or Amazon Simple Storage Service.
